India have a glorious opportunity to seal a play-off berth in the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup when they face minnows Argentina on Saturday. Sitting pretty with 11 points from three games, the Anup Kumar-led side have an easy task at hand as Argentina lie at the bottom of Group A and are without a single point.
After losing to South Korea in their opening match, India bounced back in style as they crushed Australia 54-20 to record their first win of Kabaddi World Cup. It was a superb all-round team effort and all Indian players pitched in the comprehensive victory. India benched Rahul Chaudhari and Jasvir Singh and started with Pardeep Narwal and Sandeep Narwal in their place. Indian substitutes played a key role in the victory as the bench contributed 20 points. Ajay Thakur was top scorer for India and scored seven points – all scored after coming on as a substitute.
In a must-win crucial encounter in Group A, India lived up to their reputation to beat Bangladesh 57-20. Ajay Thakur scored 10 points for India after coming on as a substitute whereas Pardeep Narwal led India’s charge in the first half and ended with eight points.
Whereas, Argentina were beaten by a 68-42 margin by Republic of Korea, Australian recorded an emphatic 68-45 victory against them, whereas England drubbed the football famous country 68-28.
